Elaine Carter, 68, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Llano Cemetery. Elaine was born January 9, 1958 in Amarillo, Texas to George and Earlene Carter. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1976 and went on to earn her bachelor degree in Education from West Texas State University. Elaine made her career as an art teacher. She taught elementary school in Denver City for a few years, before returning to Amarillo. She then taught at Austin Middle School until her retirement in 2021, after 36 years of teaching.

Elaine was a very artistic person; she had been an art major in college prior to going into education. In her spare time, she loved spending time with friends. She had several friend groups that she would meet up with. She was a part of an art group that met weekly to work on art projects. She was a talented painter and sometimes entered her paintings to be auctioned off for Amarillo College fundraisers.

Elaine’s most important role in life was that of daughter to Earlene and George. In the years since her Dad’s passing, she truly enjoyed looking after her mother, and tending to her needs. Elaine had the most outgoing personality and truly loved being around people. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Carter.

Survivors include her mother, Earlene Carter of Amarillo; her sister, Julie Menn and husband Woodrow of Denton; and her very close friends who are considered family, Bill and Tiiffany Heizer, and Nathan and Karlee Heizer.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Bill and Tiffany Heizer for the care they have provided for Elaine during her illness.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Amarillo SPCA, at 11901 Coulter St. S, Amarillo, TX 79119; or to the American Cancer Society, at American Cancer Society.
