Elaine (Matney) Standish

Elaine Standish, 88, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024. Celebration of Life Services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, August 17, 2024 at MORE Church, 5511 W. Amarillo Blvd. with Pastor Lyndal Waldrip officiating.

Elaine was born August 14, 1935 in Durango, Colorado to Jim and Elta Matney. She attended school in Stinnett and graduated as valedictorian of her senior class. She married the love of her life Bill Standish on April 3, 1955.

Elaine worked for Stewart Title as an escrow officer for many years. In her spare time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crochet. She had many talents, such as painting ceramics, gardening and canning. Elaine was a very intelligent person and was a published author, as well as an accomplished musician, playing the accordion and piano. The family jokes that she was the only one on-key at the family sing-alongs. Elaine was an active member at MORE Church and enjoyed her time there. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William “Bill” Standish; two sons, Mark Standish and Joe Standish; two brothers, Sonny and Elbe; and a sister, Ruby.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Tabor of Azle, TX, and Mary Ann Miller of Amarillo; a son, John Standish and wife Anna “Bobbi” of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
