Eleanor was born on January 5, 1923 in Athens, Texas to Dr. Robert Brook Kellams and Carrie Frances Kellams. She met James Patrick Cunningham while attending high school in Terrell, TX and they were married on January 13,1940. J. Pat preceded her in death on March 5, 2007. They were married for 67 years. She was surrounded by loving family when she passed.
During World War II Pat served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific while Eleanor supported the war effort working as a volunteer in the health care field in Terrell. Following the war they settled in Amarillo and raised their three children.
Eleanor was a charter member of the "49ers Bridge Club" founded in 1949 and she survived the other original seven member plus eleven replacement players. The club disbanded in 2012. She was also a member of the Amarillo Country Club Women's Golf Association in the 1960's. Starting in the 70's Eleanor volunteered as a "Candy Striper" at St. Anthony's Hospital for more than a decade. Eleanor was active in her children's education often serving as "Room Mother" and other PTA activities. She was a loving wife, mother and most of all a "Mema" to many. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to April Rojas and Debbie Smith for the wonderful care in which they provided.
She is survived by her daughter Dr. Ann Grandjean of Carrollton, Texas, and two sons Al Cunningham and his wife Cindy of Amarillo and Kirk Cunningham and his wife Kay of Lubbock. Seven grandchildren, Cassie Grandjean-Moody and husband Robert,, Spencer Albracht and wife Chana, Dr. Nicole Grandjean-Fredkin and husband Brad, Allison Williams and husband Michael, Amy Harrison and husband Scott, Dr. Sean Cunningham and wife Laura, and Dr. Eric Cunningham and wife Averi. 14 great-grandchildren: Sawyer, Tyler, Hayden, Swade, Gracie, Presley, Cade, Caitlin, Parker, Caleb, Samantha, Cassidy, Willy, and Emma.
