Eleanor Yvonne Toler

Eleanor Yvonne Toler, 83 passed away peacefully Monday, October 31, 2022 at BSA surrounded by her family. She was a resident of Ussery Roan Texas State Veterans Home. No Services are scheduled at this time.

Eleanor was born October 3, 1939 in Amarillo Texas to Richard (Dick) Bender and Ruby Maudell Bender of Panhandle, Texas. She was a graduate of Panhandle High School in 1958 where she was drum major and played clarinet in the band. She was also a member of National Honor Society and Future Homemakers of America. She attended Texas Tech, and the University of New Mexico.

Eleanor retired from NWTH as a purchaser for central supply. She was formally from Jarales, New Mexico where her husband Bob and she farmed, raised cattle and was 4-H leader for several years. She took great pride in gardening and even when she was unable to have her own garden she convinced the nursing home to let her have a raised garden and got many of the residents involved. She was the members council president for the last two years.

She also was an avid crafter, she loved to crochet gifts for her family and friends. She also painted, drew and colored pictures. Her favorite place to visit was LaVeta, Colorado. She and her husband would spend their summers exploring Colorado and visiting her daughter and son-in laws cabin in Las Animas County Colorado.

She is preceded in death of her parents Dick and Maudell Bender: husband Robert (Bob) M. Toler and her son Steven (Hoss) Toler.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Hawkins and husband Russell Hawkins; her grandson Wes Hawkins.
