Emma Athelene Hamilton

Emma “Athelene” Hamilton, 87, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021.  Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 12:00 PM Thursday at Kress Cemetery in Kress, Texas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Athelene was born November 29, 1933 in Hall County, Texas to Bert and Vera Jones. She married Jesse “Beaver” Hamilton in 1956 in Swisher County. Beaver passed away in 1975. Athelene worked for S & H Green Stamp Store, Sears and JC Penney. She was a bit shy, but had a simple elegance. She had the sweetest spirit and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Athelene enjoyed gardening, cooking and studying about nutrition. She adored her grandkids and great-grandkids. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse “Beaver” Hamilton; a sister, Geraldine Nolen; two brothers, Kyle Jones and Ray Jones.

Survivors include two daughters, Melanie Hamilton and Leslie Crawford and husband Iman all of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Jesse Nall, Nicholas Crawford, Oliver Crowford and Simon Crawford; two great-grandchildren, Adleigh Nall and Reed Nall; and two sisters by love, Joan Beedy and Willa Dean Holligan.
