Ernest was born on May 18, 1936 in Wheeler County on Sweetwater Creek to Ernest and Leona Schaub. He was delivered by his aunt, Florence Billingsley. He grew up on a farm near Dozier. He joined the Army National Guard in 1954, before he graduated from high school. He served honorably for 10 years. During his high school years, he was proud to have played on the basketball team that won state. He was also old enough to drive the school bus during high school. He graduated from Samnorwood High School in 1955. After high school, Ernest worked at Hess Ranch. He very much enjoyed being a cowboy. He then went to work for Phillips Petroleum in 1959, retiring in 1998 after 39 years of service. Ernest married Roma in 1978 in Pampa. They moved to Amarillo in 1997.
Ernest was very hard worker, but he also enjoyed many hobbies. He loved fishing and hunting. He and his wife traveled extensively in their retirement years. They took dance lessons of all kinds. Ernest was a talented musician and music was a real passion for him. He played the guitar and even wrote many songs. Ernest was a selfless person who loved all people, and was loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors his wife, Roma Schaub; 3 daughters, Deborah Anderson and husband Mike of Flower Mound, Lisa Schaub and partner Pam Turner of Ft. Worth, and Kim Walker and husband Chuck of Lubbock; 2 sons, James Schaub and wife Lyssa, and Steve Schaub and wife Chanda all of Pampa; 4 sisters, Kay Thomason and husband Troy, Mary Waters and husband Larry all of Wellington; Jackie Worsham and husband Frank of Alanreed, and Janie Lisle and husband Joe of Shamrock; 2 brothers Joe Schaub and wife Marsha of Paola, KS, and Paul Schaub and wife Harriett of Wellington; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 6605 I-40 Frontage Rd, Amarillo, TX 79106.
