Ernest Dasel Sheets passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014, in Lubbock, Texas.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, March 12, 11:00 am at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Tom Bailey of Altus, OK, officiating.
He was born March 20, 1923, in Campo, Colorado to Dasel and Tressie (Lackey) Sheets. The family moved to Spearman, Texas where Ernest went to school and graduated from Spearman High School. He attended Texas Tech University for 2 years until he enlisted in the Army. He served in the Army during World War II from 1943-1945 and was stationed in Japan.
He met Wilma Lois Higgins at Texline and they married October 3, 1947. They lived in Texline where he farmed and ranched for over 50 years. He and his wife were long time members of the Texline Church of Christ where he served as an elder for many years.
In 2001 they moved to Amarillo, Texas, due to health reasons, then in 2009, they moved to Altus, Oklahoma. In June, 2013, he moved to Lubbock, Texas, to Hamilton House where he was cared for and loved by Steve and Gina Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Wilma, on Aug. 2012, his wife of 65 years.
He is survived by three children, son Bob and wife Vanna of Amarillo, daughter Judy Sheets Pringle and husband Ray of Lubbock, and son Randy and wife Debra Sheets of Lubbock, Texas. He has 6 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. One sister, Lena Clark of Boise, Idaho, and a brother Wesley Sheets of Amarillo, Texas. Also a brother-in-law, John and his wife Bernice Higgins of Limon, Colorado and by his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 11, from 6-8 pm, at Cox Funeral Home, Amarillo, Texas.
