Eva Swagerty

January 12, 1927 — January 30, 2015

Eva Marie Swagerty, 88, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Marie Swagerty was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Grimes, Okla., to Joseph and Clara Cunningham. She married Gerald Swagerty on Dec. 21, 1946, in Sayre, Okla. He preceded her death on Feb. 19, 1992. She retired from JC Penny after many years in Personnel. She spent those same years supporting her husband in ministry and helping him in the several churches he pastored. Never having idle time, she was there to help family and enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, which she made for each child and grandchild. She spent the last 25 years as a faithful member of First Baptist, involved in the same Sunday School Class and sang in Heritage choir for some of those years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Cuma Cunningham, Ruthie Burrows and Leona Procter; and five brothers, Roy Cunningham, Edward Cunningham, Raymond Cunningham, Ralph Cunningham and Willard Cunningham. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Mermis and husband C.J. Mermis and Lisa Mason and husband Donny; two sons, Steve Swagerty and wife Judy and Craig Swagerty and wife Cindy; 12 grandchildren, Dawn Reed of Salina, Kan., Bryan Mermis of Great Bend, Kan., Melissa Lloyd of San Antonio, Megan Reed of Tuscon, Ariz., Christopher Swagerty of Great Bend, Kan., Maranda Minor of Minot, N.D., Ashley Maniaci of Oklahoma City, Allen Swagerty of Phoenix, Mark Mason of Des Moines, Iowa, Anne Marie Mason of Dallas, Joel Mason of Corpus Christi and Grace Mason of Amarillo; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
