Fred Eugene Gariepy

December 19, 1940 — February 21, 2018

Fred Eugene Gariepy, 77, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday at Triumphant Truth Church, 1701 S. Manhattan with Dr. Alberta Helton and Rev. Lori DeBose officiating. Fred was born December 19, 1940 in Hutchison County, Texas. He graduated from Amarillo High School, and attended college in Arizona. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Fred was a technical engineer by trade. He worked for Phelps Dodge, AT&T, Alcatel, and retired from Arizona Public Service in 1992. After retirement, he moved to Amarillo, and continued to do contract work in Puerto Rico. In his later years, Fred earned his bachelor of Theology from North Carolina College of Theology. He was an active member of Triumphant Truth Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and shooting. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harvey Gariepy, Jr. and Albert Ray Gariepy. Survivors include a son, Joe Gariepy and wife Cindy of Augusta, GA; a sister, Shirley Sluder and husband Johnny of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Erica, Laura, Noel, and Michelle; and four great-grandchildren.
