Freda Marie (Green) Akins, 85, of Amarillo, Texas, died Thursday, February 20, 2025.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Shady Grove Cemetery in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. The family will be accepting friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday February 24, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Freda was born to Boy Amos and Cleo Inez (Sutton) Green on October 15, 1939 in Crowder, Oklahoma. She graduated from Indianola High School.
She was married to William Boyd Akins on July 13, 1958 in Shawnee, Oklahoma until his death in 2010.
She worked for the Amarillo State Center, and in her retirement loved to travel with her niece, Janet Johnson and her husband, Hank.
She was a member of Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church in Amarillo.
When she was a child, her nickname was "flapper" because she never stopped talking. Nothing changed when she became an adult. She loved to talk, especially about her grandkids and great grandkids.
Freda was preceded in death by her husband: William "Bill" Akins, father: Boy Amos Green; mother: Cleo Inez Bryant; sisters: Juanita T. Hamilton, Cora M. McElhaney, Mary Ada Lusk, Bonnie Hackler, Judith Carol Green (Justice); and brother: Robert "Bob" Green.
Freda is survived by her son: Mike Akins and wife, Jennifer of Amarillo; grandchildren: Emily Akins, Andrew Akins, Erin Akins, Kate Stratton; great-grandchildren; Zander Downs, Emma Stratton; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
