Freddie Joe Valdez, Sr.

Freddie Joe Valdez, Sr., 85, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. with Rev. Dr. Brian J. Hesse officiating. The family will  receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Freddie was born September 5, 1933 in Amarillo to Faustino and Anicia Valdez. He worked at Sears Warehouse for 35 years, until his retirement in 1996. Freddie was an avid reader, especially of western novels. He enjoyed landscaping and was an expert lawn man. He was also a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eddie Valdez; and a sister, Margaret Chavez. Survivors include his wife, Joan Valdez; a daughter, Donna Marie Benitez of Gracemont, OK; four sons, Freddie Joe Valdez, Jr. of Anadarko, OK, Eric Valdez and fiancee’, Samara Fernandez of Amarillo, Darin Valdez and wife Susan of Medford, OR, and Jason Valdez and wife Laura of Amarillo; a brother, Johnny Valdez of Amarillo; four sisters, Estefana “Babe” Reina of Amarillo, Gloria Kiezkile and husband Kuba of The Woodlands, Virginia Price of Florida, and Mary Esther Valdez of New York; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School, 5005 I-40 West, Amarillo, TX 79106.
