Garry was born June 4, 1933 in Graham, Texas to Barton and Madeline Boyer. He grew up in Borger, graduating from Borger High School in 1950. After graduation, he married Fredia Landers in 1951. He then attended Texas Tech University, where he was a fullback on the TT football team. He played in two bowl games during his tenure at Tech, the Sun Bowl and The Gator Bowl, where they beat Auburn University. Garry and Fredia lived in Fritch for 30 years, before moving to Amarillo in 1990. He owned and operated Lakeside Wholesalers. He went on to co-own Boyer-Hicks Construction, a home building company.
Garry was a top salesman in many different industries. In the late 1960's, he was #1 nationwide in TV sales for Montgomery Ward. He was the Regional vice-president of A.L. Williams Life Insurance Co., Ranking #3 nationally in 1986. He earned the Tallest in the Nation award in Fotron Camera sales. Garry excelled in sales in every field worked in.
Garry was a physically active person. He enjoyed running in his younger years, then later, was known to walk up to ten miles a day. He was also an extremely competitive racquetball player. He was fun Big Daddy to his grandkids, always showing them a great time.
Survivors include two daughters, Shari Gillean and husband John of Denton, Terri Huseman and husband Dwayne of Amarillo; three sons, Garry M. Boyer of Amarillo, Greg Boyer and wife Gwen of Leonard, and Rodney Boyer and Debbie of Canyon; one sister, Brenda Matthews and husband Mitch of Colorado Springs, CO; 17 grandchildren, Micah Boyer, Becca Boyer-Brooke, Blake Boyer, Ryan Huseman, Amber Huseman-Armes, Shane Huseman, Mindi Huseman, J.J. Boyer, Tanner Boyer, Tyler Boyer, Daniel Gillean, Sarah Gillean-Felts, Leah Gillean, James Gillean, Mark Gillean, Kristi Boyer, and Terah Boyer; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Fredia in 2013.
