Gene Doggett

January 5, 1937 — February 28, 2025

Amarillo

Gene Doggett, 88, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Gene was born January 5, 1937 in Santa Anna, Texas to Hauty and Ruby Doggett. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1955. He married the love of his life, Sydna Morris on October 18, 1958. Gene and Sydna enjoyed 61 years of marriage together, raising two daughters, Connie and Cheryl.

Early on, Gene worked for the Texas Highway Dept. in Pampa. He then made his career as a Right-of-Way engineer for Transwestern, later Enron. They moved many times with Gene’s job, beginning in 1966 in Marshall, Texas, to Colorado, to Arkansas, and back to Texas. The couple settled in Perryton in 1970, where they raised their family and were members of First Baptist Church of Perryton. Gene retired from Enron in 1994 in Granbury. Gene and Sydna loved their retirement years in Granbury, where they were active members of First Baptist Church of Granbury, where Gene served as a deacon. In 2011, they moved to Amarillo and were members of Paramount Baptist Church.

Gene was the Dad who decorated the van in school colors to take the kids to games and events. All the kids enjoyed hanging out at their house and felt welcome there. While in Granbury, Gene enjoyed boating with the grandkids and hosting lake weekends for them and their friends. He enjoyed tinkering and remodeling things in his workshop. The couple traveled in their RV all over the US and to Canada and Mexico. They were members of the Allegro motor home club. Gene was a funny guy who loved life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Because of the strong faith he had in Jesus as his Savior, we know there was a joyous reunion in Heaven.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sydna Doggett; a brother, Melvin Armstrong; and a sister, Chrystell McElroy Carter.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Estes and husband Brad of Amarillo, and Cheryl Huggins and husband Louis of Cedar Park, TX; two grandsons, Kyler Estes and wife Whitney and Tanner Estes and wife Samantha; and four great-grandchildren, Kasen, Caroline, Madeleine and Hannah Estes.

The family suggests memorials may be made to BSA Hospice of the Southwest.
