Gene Peggram, 87, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at Trinity Fellowship Church North Campus, 503 E. Willow Creek with Jeff Camp and Pastor Bo Williams officiating. Graveside services will follow at Boys Ranch Alumni Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Gene was born September 12, 1934 in McKnight, Texas to William Roy Peggram and Lola Smithers Peggram. He graduated from Quail High School and attended West Texas State University. He met Tommye Sue Short at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch. They married on June 6, 1961 at Boys Ranch. Gene and Tommye served as house parents there for 12 years. Gene then moved in to administration at Boys Ranch, retiring in 1996. He also worked as a Reserve Deputy for Oldham County. He ran cattle on the family’s home place that he shared with his brother, Jim, for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rodeos and watching basketball. Gene especially enjoyed time spent with his grandkids. He was very involved in their activities, and was so proud of his grandson, Colten’s service in the U.S. Navy. Gene and Tommye were members of Coulter Road Baptist Church. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mabel Mitchell and Opal Camp; a brother, Billy Joe Peggram, and infant brother, William Peggram. Survivors include his wife, Tommye Peggram; two daughters, Jamie Mannin and husband Bill, and Jeanna Landrum and husband Chad all of Amarillo; a brother, Jim Peggram and wife Betty of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Shayla Fields and husband Scott of Happy, Shelby Braman and husband James of Amarillo, and Colten Landrum and wife Shelby-lyn of Norfolk, VA; and eight great-grandchildren, Charlie, Lucy, Gus, Jameson, Aiden, Brysen, Emma and Kaysen. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Alumni Association, PO Box 9435, Amarillo, TX 79105.
