George "Tom Jones" Thompson

October 22, 1939 — March 4, 2017

George was born October 22, 1939 in Savannah, Georgia to Alice and George Thompson. He grew up on a farm in Savannah. He was a professional wrestler for over 40 years. He held numerous titles. He was the first black wrestler to wrestle a white competitor in Louisiana. He coached and trained many wrestlers throughout his life. George was a loving father, and a very well-respected man. He was incredibly proud of his kids. He was known as "The Gladiator", "Tom Jones", "Mr. Ebony", and most importantly "Dad". Survivors include one son, Codie Thompson and his tag-team partner, Paloma Vargas of Chicago, IL; one daughter, Kerrilynn Thompson and fiancé, Thomas Howarth of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother Jimmy Green; and one sister Ada Green both of Savannah, GA; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 5410 Bell St, Ste #411, Amarillo, TX 79109.
