George Shepard, Jr.

George James Shepard Jr, 88 of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 25, 2026 at his home. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Monday, May 4, 2026 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. George was born August 22, 1937 in Young County, Texas to George and Cynthia Shepard. As a toddler, he moved with his parents to Happy, Texas. He graduated from Happy High School in 1957. After high school he and his brother Henry traveled through numerous states, building grain elevators with their uncle. He returned to Amarillo and worked at Crowe-Gulde, a cement /cinder block plant for 30 years. He operated the plant with his brother until it closed. He was then self-employed with several endeavors; Ostrich farm, real estate rentals and home remodeling. He was an avid bowler at all the Amarillo bowling alleys and attended several State & National Events. He married Vicki in 1988 and lived in Amarillo until his death.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Karen Rucker and brothers Henry and Carl Shepard.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Shepard; sons, David Shepard and Douglas Shepard; step-sons, Ronald, Derrick and Richard Williams;  step-daughter, Natalie Davis; brother, Glenn Shepard; sisters, Cynthia Sue Doss, Dorothy Berry and Vera Johnson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
