Amarillo

Gerald "Jerry" LaBue, 89, of Windsor made his way to Heaven on February 26, 2019. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Bethany Baptist Church in Lubbock, TX. Jerry was born May 23, 1929 to Philip and Ruth (Haskell) LaBue in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Due to his growing up during the Great Depression Era (1929 - 1939), Jerry was only able to attend school through the eighth grade at which time he went to work on a local farm in Illinois to help support his family. The Lord gave Jerry a common sense and ability to fix almost anything. Jerry married Fran Hoekstra on September 10, 1948 in Riverside Illinois. Ready to conquer the world with his new bride, Jerry worked as a mechanic in an auto garage for his uncle. What they didn't plan on was the Korean War. Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and their path changed. In 1954, Jerry received an Honorable discharge as a corporal from the U.S. Army for his service as a helicopter mechanic, and their path changed again. Jerry and Fran moved to Weld County Colorado, where his Dad was pastor of a Baptist Church. They farmed and operated a small dairy in Galeton, CO. With an opportunity to purchase their own farm 1958, they moved and began farming in Windsor, CO. Windsor was a great place to raise their family of four children and pursue Jerry's passion for farming. This he did until 1990 when he retired. Jerry enjoyed being his own boss. Farming came natural to him and he wasn't afraid of hard work. The hard part was getting him to stop working. He loved his wife and family. His faith was important to him and he learned that you don't work on the Lord's Day. He enjoyed fishing, water skiing and flying. Jerry was a strong man, but he didn't smoke, chew, drink, or cuss. Jerry and Fran were long time members of Bethel Baptist Church in Greeley, CO. The past twelve years, Jerry has been living with his son, Ken LaBue in Lubbock, TX where he was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Lubbock. Jerry is the last of his family's generation. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Fran LaBue; a daughter, Brenda Sue LaBue; and two siblings, Phyllis (LaBue) Lundburg, and Duane LaBue. Jerry leaves behind his three sons, Glenn and Elaine LaBue of Windsor, Randy and Donna LaBue of Amarillo, Texas and Ken LaBue of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to: Jerry LaBue Fund in care of: Bethany Baptist Church, 4402 40th St. Lubbock, TX 79414.
