Dr. Gerald Rogers, 71, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday. September 5, 2020. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Pastor Roger Hubbard officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Tuesday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Gerald was born October 20, 1948 in Amarillo to Howard and Neta Rogers. He grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Caprock High School in 1967, before joining the U.S. Marine Corps. He proudly served his country for six years. Gerald attended the University of Texas, and then went on to earn a bachelor degree and master’s degree in Psychology from West Texas State University. He earned a second master’s degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University, and went on to obtain his PhD in Human Sexuality from The Institute for Advanced Study in Human Sexuality. Gerald worked in private practice for 40 years, helping thousands of patients in that time. He consulted with every social agency in the area over the course of his career. In his spare time, Gerald enjoyed playing racquetball, boating, and bass fishing as often as he could. He was extremely health conscious, and never stopped working out. He loved spending time in the mountains. Gerald coached many, many sports teams throughout the years, including all his own kids’ sports teams. Gerald treated his kids’ friends as if they were his own. He was a volunteer for Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, and supported several agencies that assisted underprivileged kids. He was a member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. Gerald will be sorely missed by his family, his community, his patients, and all those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Samuel Rogers. Survivors include his wife, Kay Renshaw; a son, Cody Rogers and wife Liz of Amarillo; a daughter, Leslie Moore and husband Jarrod of Amarillo; a sister, Lana Alston and husband David of Dickinson; and five grandchildren, Bryar Moore, Abi Rogers, Maxwell Rogers, Niksen Renshaw, and Lex Renshaw.
