Gerald Dwight "Sonny" Winter, Sr.

Gerald Dwight “Sonny” Winter, Sr., 80, of Amarillo, died Saturday, December 28, 2019. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Sonny was born July 28, 1939 in Okeene, Oklahoma to Carl and Ruby Winter. His family moved to Amarillo when he was seven years old. He married Joyce Hubbart in 1957. Sonny worked in construction for over 60 years as a superintendent. He worked for Panhandle Steel Buildings for 40 years, then for Advance Construction, retiring in 2001. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and shooting. He loved his dog, Blackie, and they enjoyed many golf cart rides together. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Joyce earlier in 2019. Survivors include a son, Jerry Winter and wife Becky of Amarillo; two daughters, Sonna Harper of Dade City, FL, and Tiffany Bural of Amarillo; a sister, Twila Barker of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
