Helen Joyce Hopkins Dew, 83, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018.
A casual gathering of family and friends remembering Helen's life will be held at the home of Dr. Tony and Michele Agostini, 3003 Parker Street in Amarillo, on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 PM. The scattering of Helen's ashes will take place at a later date with a private family memorial.
Helen was born at home on October 4, 1934 in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee to Estell and Ernest Hopkins. She married in 1956 and had 2 children. She lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Richardson, Texas in 1968. Helen worked for and retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. She then moved back to Albuquerque to be closer to family and worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico. She retired from there in 2000. In 2003, she moved to Amarillo, Texas to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and first born grandchild. She was a loving and devoted "Gigi" to her 2 grandchildren and was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, sister-in-law and aunt. Helen will be forever loved and deeply missed by her family and friends. She was a member of The Church of Christ at the Colonies where she had a close circle of friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Keith, and her parents.
She is survived by one daughter: Christine Cox and husband, Dr. S. Lane Cox and two grandchildren, Claire Cox and Wyatt Cox of Amarillo. A stepfather, Stephen Zdunek and wife Anita, three brothers; Dennis Zdunek and wife Mylli, Tom Zdunek and wife Janet, all of Albuquerque and Roland Zdunek and wife Suzanne, of Clyde, North Carolina: Two sisters, Leeanna Travis and husband Jack, of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Donna Zdunek of Albuquerque. She also leaves behind and many nephews and nieces left to cherish her memory.
Helen requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to The High Plains Children's Home and Family Services, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, Texas 79118 or The Church of Christ at the Colonies, 4500 Wesley Road, Amarillo, Texas 79119.
