Helen Lambert Hammond of Amarillo, passed away October 5, 2022. Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 2 pm at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Benton and Pastor Steve Waterhouse officiating. Helen was born July 16, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio, to John and Margaret Lambert. She married John Hammond and they enjoyed raising their four children as they moved several years with John’s company until retirement in 1986.
During those years, Helen enjoyed homemaking and using her talents as a seamstress, photographer, knitter, wool spinner, weaver, and quilter. She also designed several quilt patterns which she then marketed.
Helen was a devoted wife, a believer and follower of Jesus and His teachings. It was her unalterable faith that carried her through several difficult illnesses and physical challenges. She survived two cancers and recovered from them. Through all these, she never complained but kept her faith intact.
After John’s retirement from Hercules, they served, over a span of ten years, five separate technical assignments to help companies in third world countries. During the day when John was at these companies, Helen served as an ambassador to the local people visiting hospitals, schools, and local charity groups. This also encouraged her to enjoy life more by continuing to travel to other countries to see some of God’s great creation and to witness other cultures and beliefs.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Charlie.
She is survived by her husband of seventy years John; children: Mary Van Sant; Deborah Hammond, JR Hammond and his wife Cheryl; Janet Moak and her husband Dennis. Grandchildren: Eric Van Sant and his wife Kristen; Donald Van Sant; Emily Pfenning and her husband Kirby; Desiree Peterson; Laura Santelli and her husband TJ; Nicholas Cicchini and his wife Brenda; Louis Cicchini; Allison Hutchinson and her husband Jordan along with twelve great-grandchildren. Sisters Janice Denning and Linda Walker. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be given to the Christian Relief Fund 1501 SW 58th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79110 or the Harrington Cancer Center 1751 Wallace Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79106.
