Hubert Melvin Lewis, 95, of Amarillo passed away on January 6, 2024. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday January 10, 2024 at Llano Cemetery, 2900 Hayes with Robby Barrett officiating. The family will be accepting friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday January 9, 2024 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Hubert was born on June 29, 1928 in Amarillo, Texas to John and Lora Lewis. He attended Amarillo High School. Hubert proudly served in The United States Navy from 1948-1952. He met and married the love of his life, Evelyn Clark on September 24, 1965. Together they shared 51 years of marriage before her passing. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo. Hubert was always smiling. He truly loved to dance, started with his wife square dancing and round dancing. Hubert was a proud member of the Amarillo Line Dancers. He loved to fish, so much so he build his own cabin at Monument Lake to be able to fish anytime he wanted. Hubert enjoyed having his weekly coffee dates with his family, friends and his fellow retires. He will deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gordon; two sisters, Mary and Marie; his loving wife Evelyn.
Survivors include his son, Kevin Thompson (Imelda) of Amarillo, Texas; his grandson, Ryan Thompson of Amarillo, Texas; his sister, Doris Hoefer of Lakewood, Colorado; a special niece, Patsy Fuller (Jack) of Amarillo, Texas. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
