Hugh Latham

Hugh Latham, 75, of Amarillo, passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday July 8, 2022. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday July 12, 2022, at Coulter Road Baptist Church, 4108 S Coulter St, with Pastor Mike Dickey officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday July 11, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Hugh was born on December 12, 1946 in Center, Texas to Joe and Edna Latham. He graduated from Friona High School. Hugh was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. He continued supporting those in uniform any way he could, even after he was honorably discharged. Hugh married his bride, Sharon Lamm on September 6, 1978. Together Sharon and Hugh celebrated over 43 years of marriage, and enjoyed every bit of life together. Hugh worked for Mrs. Baird’s Bread for many years and then moved into tire sales. He was a part of Western Auto for a short time before serving 15 years with Sears Tires before retirement.

Huge was an avid sports fan and especially  took pride in the local sports. He liked the Amarillo hockey team, football and baseball teams. Hugh was a big Dallas Cowboy's fan and loved the Texas Rangers baseball team. Often you could find him in his Cowboy jersey or his Texas Rangers pajama pants. He enjoyed going to the casinos, specifically playing the slots. When he couldn’t go in person, Hugh played slot games on his computer.

Hugh was a devoted member of Coulter Road Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and also helped with cleaning the church building. His church family meant the world to him and he was devoted to his Christian walk. Hugh loved his family, spending time with his children, grandchildren and siblings whenever he could find the free time. Family was his life’s focus and no one could ever doubt his devotion to them all. Hugh was kind, always giving and steadfast in his love for others. He will be deeply missed by so many. He leaves behind a never ending legacy.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Jesse, Joe, Lois, Glenda and Virginia; his son, Russell Latham.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Latham of the home; four daughters, Karen Fox (John) of Amarillo, Tammy Latham (Summer) of Fritch, Kyla Grover of Lubbock and Katrina Sirmon (Paul) of Keller; seven sisters, Barbara, Kathy, Shirley, Myrtie, Ruby, Dorothy and Brenda; two brothers, John and Jerry; 12 grandchildren, Amber Harper (Sage), Haley Fox, Jeremy Latham (Audrey), Kyle Latham (Ashley), Shanda Evans (Eric), Andrew Mann (Kelsea), Ashton McFeron (Bryan), Jacob Latham (Cheyanne), Caleb Neptune (Selena), Justin Villegas (Vanessa), Shayla Neptune, Bryanna Gonzales (Isaac) and Edison Sirmon; 18 great grandchildren, extended family and close friends.
