Hunter Dante Cortesi, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, died on October 20, 2016.
Hunter was born on March 5, 1997 in Amarillo, Texas to Bobby Cortesi and Tracy Hendricks-Cortesi. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 2015 and was set to enroll at Amarillo College this coming spring. During his gap year, Hunter spent time honing professional skills in the service industry and playing music.
Hunter was one those rare individuals who was completely himself and stayed true to his convictions. He had a distinct personality and a style to match it. People could always spot Hunter in a crowd by his distinctive glasses and quirky socks and tee shirts. Hunter was known for his sense of humor. His dry, witty remarks and impeccable timing kept his family and friends entertained for hours. Much of his humor was a product of his sharp and perceptive mind. Hunter was incredibly smart and loved philosophical discussions about anything from Lord of the Rings to politics and religion.
Hunter was passionate about the things he cared about. An avid guitar player, he loved learning new songs and discovering new music. He was a mostly self-taught guitarist and spent hours adding to his repertoire of songs. He also loved his cat Jinx who he would always greet first when he came home. Hunter also loved playing sports. In high school he played tennis, and he was recently a member of a recreational softball team. Another one of Hunter's passions was the beauty of panhandle sunsets. A couple times a week, he would drive to the edge of town and take in the simple yet profound beauty of a sunset.
Most of all Hunter was passionate about his family and friends and could always be counted on for either a good laugh or advice. He was a dedicated friend, son and brother. Many of his friends described him as inspirational due to his ability to brighten everyone's day and unfailing individuality.
Hunter is survived by his parents, Bobby and Tracy Cortesi; sister, Hailey and her husband Mackey; sister, Heather, and sister Taylor, and her husband, Jacob; nephew, Isaiah; and nieces, Brenly, Makena, Avyrie, and Adyson; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. He is preceded in death by grandmother, Phyllis Cortesi, and grandfather, John Hendricks. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday October 25, 2016 at Summit Church in Canyon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hunter Cortesi Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will be given annually to individuals pursuing a degree in music. Please send donations to Wells Fargo at 4140 S Coulter St., Amarillo, TX 79109.
