Jace Daniel Ortiz was born in Amarillo, TX on May 30, 2008. Jace was a special boy in so many ways and was truly a testament to God's Work. Jace was the best son a parent could ever ask for and we were blessed to have him in our lives. Jace was born with a heart defect that limited our time with him. Although he endured several surgeries, many hospital admissions, countless Dr. appointments and had to take many medicines daily, he went on each day with a smile on his face and always looking on the bright side of every situation. He truly inspired everyone he met and really taught us what life is about.
Jace was on a special protein diet that developed into a passion for cooking. He shared this love for cooking with the people around him. He would make lunch for dad every day and enjoyed helping cook for family dinners.
In an effort to protect Jace, he wasn't able to leave the house very often. He attended Kindergarten at Crestview and in 1st grade was a homebound student at Gene Howe. He was infatuated with shows such as Chicago Fire and Chicago Med. He had so much interest in talking to policemen and firefighters. Jace considered them Heroes; little did he realize how much of a hero he really was.
Jace entered the gates of God's kingdom on February 10, 2016. He spent his last few days with his family at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Even during his last difficult days, he continued to show his parents his politeness, respect and tremendous love.
Jace is survived by his parents, Nick and Elena Ortiz and little sister, Jaelyn Ortiz of Amarillo; grandparents Rick and Melita Ortiz of Hereford, Dubelia Ortiz of Canyon, Mary Fierro of Turkey and Mauro Fierro of Washington State; his very special caregiver One Salinas of Canyon; aunts and uncles Kelly and Juan, Alma and Nick, Gaby and Chris, Sara, Cathy, Jesica and Kurt, Anthony, Ashley, Kailey, Naina and Rusty, and many loving cousins, relatives, Dr. Robinson (cardiologist), Covenant nurses and friends. Jace is preceded in death by great-grand parents Santiago and Emilia Martinez, Samuel and Raquel Chavira, and Great-Grandma Janie.
We will carry Jace's memory forever in our hearts and in our efforts to support organizations that helped him on his journey. We invite you to celebrate Jace's life with us by visiting www.TeamJace.com
