James "Bud" Andrew Jackson, Jr.

April 13, 1930 — June 15, 2017

Bud was born April 13, 1930, in Ralls, TX, to Bessie and James Andrew Jackson, Sr. He moved to Amarillo from Ralls in 1940. He was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Amarillo College, University of Texas and West Texas State University. He taught school for one year in Mexico City. He was an educator, teaching with the Amarillo ISD, retiring in 1994 after 37 years, and was beloved by all his students and peers. He married Dolores Gerber Meade in Amarillo on August 12, 1982, and was a constant source of love and support to her, two daughters, four granddaughters and ten great grandchildren. He loved and was loved immensely by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and all who knew him. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his friends, Charles Kempf and Connie Basker, who visited often, lending a hand so generously. He will be missed more than words can express. He was a member of Amarillo Bible Church. He was also fortunate enough to get to travel to Israel and Greece. He loved his Lord and Savior and would tell everyone about Him. He is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; daughters, Jennifer Free and husband Terry of Chattanooga, TN, and Vanessa Maples of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Holly Small, Ashley Phillips and husband Aaron, Melissa Schlabs and husband Joey, Jillian Maples and Eric Winkle; ten great grandchildren, Kylee, Kynslee, Jaxson, Maddox, Mia, Eiden, Jack, Oliver, Farrah, and Ezra; also surviving him are two sisters, Elene Kelly and Bernice Wickware; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to CEF of West Texas, Panhandle Chapter at 806-374-3024, Moody Bible Institute at 800-356-6639 or Wycliffe Associates at 800-843-9673.
