Jim was born June 25, 1944 in Coolidge, Arizona to Edward Winston “E.W.” and Oleta Foley. He grew up in a military family and Jim’s father was stationed in various locations around the world. As a result, Jim spent a good deal of his childhood in Japan. He graduated from high school in Biloxi, Mississippi, and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Jim earned his degree in Pharmacology from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He made his career as a pharmacist in Amarillo, working for Albertson’s and later for CVS.
Jim married his wife, Vickie, on May 7, 2009. They have been active member of Saint Paul Methodist Church for many years. In his earlier years, Jim enjoyed playing softball, hiking, fishing and bicycling. Jim and Vickie traveled extensively over the years to various countries around the world. They visited Ireland, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Greece, France, Spain and Amsterdam to name a few.
Jim was a very intelligent man who could also be very ornery. His quick wit kept people laughing. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eddie Foley; and a brother-in-law, Don Ballard.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Foley; a son, Jon Patrick Foley; a daughter, Jennifer Foley Ball and husband Mike Ball of Amarillo; a sister, Patricia Sue Ballard of Cedar Park, TX; a bonus daughter, Amanda Grant and husband Shannon of Canyon; and a bonus grandson, Charles Vinson.
