James Gray Hodson, 72, of Amarillo, passed away Monday, November 2, 2020. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the Sharon Cemetery in Lake Valley, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home in Amarillo. James Gray Hodson was born in Altus, OK on Dec. 3, 1947. Jim grew up on a family farm just five miles east of Snyder, OK. He attended school and graduated from Snyder High School in May 1966. During this time, he met the love of his life, Melinda Gaye Shrum. The two were married on June 16th, 1966. Jim and “Mendy” had three beautiful daughters; Cheryl Lyn, Rebecca Gaye, and Tara Suzanne. Jim’s career mostly involved vehicle sales or as operator/owner of semi-trucks; specifically, Rafter J Enterprises and High Plains Express. His work took him from Snyder to Dalhart, TX, and then eventually to Amarillo, TX, where he and Melinda have resided since 1997. He is survived by his wife, Melinda, and his three daughters; Cheryl and her husband Don Lidia, of OKC, OK and their son, Graydon James Lidia. Rebecca and her husband Johan Hellman, of Olympia, WA, and children Ashley Lane and Axl Hellman. Tara and her husband Russel Fangman, of Dumas, TX and children Cole Groen and Dallas Aistrup. He is also survived by his two sisters, Sue Chapman and Linda McCorkle. Aside from his daughters, Jim’s grandchildren brought him much pride and happiness. He also loved being “Uncle Jimmy” to his many nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil B. Hodson and Eula Barnes Hodson, of Snyder, OK, and his brother Benton Hodson, Lawton, OK.
