James I. "Jim" Fletcher, 93, of Amarillo, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. Jim was born December 5, 1923 in Butte, Montana to Philip and Ethel Fletcher. When he was young, his family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he attended South High Public School. Jim was an eagle scout during his high school years. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in December, 1942, and attended the University of Nevada, graduating as a pilot in 1944. He flew B-17's and B-29's, and was an instructor of both at Amarillo Air Base. He married Dorothy Barnett in 1945. They were blessed with three sons, Gary, Phil, and Alan. They moved to Amarillo and enjoyed farming in Randall, Armstrong, and Donley counties for 45 years. Jim also enjoyed buying and selling real estate. He was elected Randall County Commissioner for Precinct 1, and served 12 years, where he incorporated the village of Lake Tanglewood. He was director of Pullman Road Association, and also of the Randall County Bureau, Randall County School Board, and president of Will Rogers Range Riders. Jim was proud to be a member of the Masonic Lodge and Khiva Shrine. Within the Khiva Shrine, he served as a member of the Khiva Greeters and was director and past president of the Jesters. In 1987, Jim married the love of his life, Dori Elaine Rackley. They lived happily together for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dori Fletcher of Amarillo; three sons, Gary Fletcher and wife J'Melle of Lake Tanglewood, Phil Fletcher of Claude, and Alan Fletcher and wife Tonya of Clarendon; two sisters, Edith Rogerson of Pennsylvania, and Joyce Corbin of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
