James R. (Jim) Remy, 91, of Amarillo, Texas died in the early morning hours of March 5, 2026. The beauty, dignity and blessing of his death is that he simply went to sleep and woke up in the presence of Jesus.
Jim was born March 18,1934 in Neosho, Missouri to Ralph W. Remy and Ethyl E. Fulton Remy. While still a youngster, the family moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he lived from boyhood through his college days. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1957 with his degree in Industrial Engineering. While at OSU, Jim played baseball for the Cowboys, was an active member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the ROTC program.
Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force as a commissioned officer, where he piloted the KC-135 refueler aircraft. Jim cherished his time in the Air Force and continued to be an honorable, proud and dedicated patriot until he died.
After serving in the Air Force, Jim chose private business. He moved his wife and young family to Texas where he owned and operated an Ethan Allen furniture business for many years. He involved himself with several civic and charitable organizations in his community.
He loved engaging and connecting with people. Jim made friends easily and maintained many quality, life-long relationships. He was a loyal person and generous with his resources, often sharing his Christian faith in tangible ways that went unseen.
Jim truly appreciated a good adventure, as these opportunities included new people, places and food experiences. Whether it was his annual hunting trip with his South Dakota buddies, building his own cabin in Colorado, or supporting the mission trips and study abroad opportunities of his children and grandchildren, he was all in. He always encouraged and supported new experiences, travel and growth for his family and others whose lives he influenced.
Jim’s life took many turns, but he always stood firm for the ethics of hard work, accountability and doing the right thing. Our Dad’s positive attitude was very contagious, and in his upbeat manner, he would often be heard encouraging others to “keep their eye on the ball” or “don’t take any wooden nickels”! And there were many other funny adages he would offer at just the right time that might sound corny but were somehow appropriate to the situation.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Janet Griffith, and a son, Gus Remy.
Those left to remember him are his children; Liz and David, Jill and Tami, Tom and Kacy; his grandchildren, Brandy, Drake, Annabelle, Ben and Brooklyn; his great granddaughter Skylar, and many nieces and nephews. His life will be celebrated with a graveside service in Paoli, Oklahoma at a later date.
Our family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the Community Living Center of the Veteran’s Administration Hospital – they have provided the very best care.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your home church, favorite charity or the VA Hospital of Amarillo, Texas.
