James Scarbrough, 92, of Amarillo, TX, passed away on January 6, 2025. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday January 18, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. with Pastor Robby Barrett Officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday January 17, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home in Amarillo, Texas.
James was born on February 4, 1932 in Swearingen, Texas to Olney and Mary Scarbrough. He has been a part of the Amarillo community since 1950 and married his sweetheart, Viola “Genelle” Wright, on March 11, 1960. Together they celebrated over 56 years of marriage, until she passed away in 2016. James worked for Canyon Drive Lumber Yard in Amarillo for many years before he retired in 1990. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Southlawn Baptist Church. Among James’s many hobbies and talents, he enjoyed wood working, working with his hands, but his passion was collecting unique and antique clocks.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Genelle Scarbrough; five brothers: O.L. Scarbrough, Kenneth Scarbrough, Edward Scarbrough, Bruce Scarbrough, and Bobby Scarbrough.
Survivors include his two sons: James David Scarbrough and wife Rebecca of Rogersville, AL, Michael Scarbrough and wife Paige of Columbus, NC; three daughters: Bonnie Davis of Rogersville, AL, Mary Gillis and husband Ernest of Mobile, AL, and Debi Boyd of Irving, TX; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; and one brother, Elmer Scarbrough.
