James O. Whatley

January 19, 1926 — April 27, 2015

James was born on January 19, 1926 in Floydada, TX to Fred L. and Rena Bertha Whatley. He worked at Pantex prior to his enlistment in the United States Navy on April 18, 1944. He proudly served on the US Breten, the US Santa Isabel and the US Fisk Victory in the South Pacific, obtaining the rank of Seaman First Class. James was honorable discharged on March 14, 1946. He married Mary Frances Radney on February 14, 1948. She preceded him in death July 11, 2013. James worked for International Paper as an assistant foreman for many years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Amarillo VFW, the Amarillo Police Auxiliary in 1959 and a devoted member of Bolton Street Baptist Church. He is survived by his children, Kay Waters, Diane Railsback, James Whatley and wife Donna and Mary Knepp; niece, Charla Hook; nephew, Charles Gross; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth Gross and wife Mary Frances Whatley.
