Janette Kelley, 88, of Amarillo, passed away on May 21, 2025. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Chaparral Hills Baptist Church, 4000 W Cherry Ave, with Pastor Alan Burkhalter officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Janette was born on September 15, 1936, in Denton, Texas, to Evelyn and Sterling Broughton. On October 12, 1962, in Lubbock, Texas, Janette married her sweetheart, William Edward Kelley. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage before he preceded Janette in death in 2005.
After earning her master’s degree in education, Janette devoted 35 years to education as a teacher. Janette’s commitment to her community extended far beyond the school walls. She was actively involved in the League of Women Voters, advocating for informed civic participation, and she was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi and Daughters of the Nile, where she built lasting friendships. Her deep and abiding faith was central to her life, She had been a longstanding member of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church.
Janette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Edward Kelley, and one granddaughter, Tiffany Gaut.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Tracy Kelley, and wife Tina of Lubbock; her daughter, Allison Gaut, and husband Comer of Canyon; four grandchildren, April Kelley, Aaron Kelley, Tami Gaut, and Hailey Nichols and her husband, Trevor; eleven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan Broughton, and wife Shirley; and one sister, Glenda Kallman, and husband Bob. Survivors also include a host of extended family members and close friends.
