Jay Donald Jones, a resident of Buena Vista, Colorado since 1986, passed away doing what he loved - flying, on Monday, July 4, 2016.
Jay was born on October 30, 1952 to Robert Lee "Bob" Jones, Sr. and Catherine Slavent Jones in Amarillo, Texas. He was a wrestler and a graduate of Amarillo High School, Amarillo, TX who went on to study Architecture at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX.
Jay was incredibly passionate about airplanes, bragging about his daughters, helping his friends, and living life to the fullest. Often nicknamed the Energizer Bunny, Sparky, Betty White or the likes, Jay was full of life with whatever he set out to accomplish. From operating his Bed & Breakfast to guiding rafts down the Arkansas River, from running ultra-marathon 100 mile races to racing his Formula 1 airplane around the world, Jay was always on the go fueled by black coffee and Coca-Cola, as well as an incredible will to thrive off of life. Jay had a hard time telling anyone No and found it easier with a smile to say Sure, I'll help, let's try it. If you merely met Jay once, he would consider you his friend - Jay had A LOT of friends.
Jay Jones is survived by his daughters, Allison Marie Jones and Haley Anne Riordan; Mother, Catherine Slavent Jones; sister, Mary Catherine Gray; brothers Robert Lee "Bobby" Jones, Jr., Joe T. Jones, and Jim Sam Jones; former spouse, Diane Jones, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee "Bob" Jones, Sr.
