Jean Skelton, 82, of Amarillo, passed into the arms of Jesus on December 12, 2020. Funeral services will be closed to the public, but live streamed at 2:00 PM Wednesday December 16, 2020, with Pastor Kyle Wilkinson, Trinity Fellowship Church, and Pastor Kevin Clowe, Park Place Towers, Officiating.
Jean was born on February 11, 1938 in Claude, Texas to Clifton and Florence Annie Brown.
Jean was married to Ronal Skelton in 1954, and they were married for 58 years until Ronal’s death in 2012. Jean was a loving wife and mother to her three boys, Rodney, Dennis, and Greg, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren who all loved her very much, partly because she was an excellent cook. As a teenager, Jean played basketball for Claude High School, and her competitive nature carried on as she became an avid spectator for athletic events of her family members and watching college and professional sporting events on television.
At a young age, Jean developed her God given gift of music, and became an outstanding piano player enjoyed by all her family and friends. Throughout her lifetime, if Jean came into a room with a piano, she would be asked to play, and her music brought joy to her life and those around her.
While raising her 3 boys she found time to work at several florist shops and garden/nursey centers which developed her love for the outdoors, plants, and gardening. The last 5 years of Jean’s life were spent as a resident of Park Place Towers in downtown Amarillo. While there, Jean made countless friends spending most of her time in the outdoor Patio of Park Place. Jean was known to care for the beautiful flowers and plants, and her passion was to create an outdoor retreat for all the Park Place residents and visitors.
Jean hardly ever rested, and always desired to stay engaged with life, and she lived every moment as a gift from God. Walking into a room, Jean was known to say, “Honey what can I do”, because she was so full of energy and life. Her expressions of love, compassion, and charismatic personality will be missed by all of those who knew her. Jean’s family and friends take comfort in knowing she is free from the sickness and pain of illness and aging, and now reunited with Ronal and many other loved ones in heaven for eternity.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronal Skelton; one sister, Doris McFarland and one brother, Luther Brown.
Survivors include three sons, Rodney Skelton and wife Leslie, Dennis Skelton and wife Belinda both of Amarillo and Greg Skelton and wife Contessa of Austin; two sisters, Wilma Anglin of Phoenix, Arizona and Shirley Hodges of Denton, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Baptist Community Services, Park Place Towers, “Patio Fund”. Donations can be sent to Park Place Towers, 1300 S. Harrison, Amarillo, Texas 79101, or you may phone 806-337-4142.
