Jene Greer

October 1, 1928 — December 21, 2017

Jene Greer, 89, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on Thursday, December 21, 2017. He entered this world on October 1, 1928, in Hereford, TX, born to Joe and Lois Carlyle Greer. He was born on a farm between Dawn and Hereford. Later, the family moved to Albuquerque, NM, and finally to Amarillo. He served 2 years in the US Army. He graduated from Amarillo High School, West Texas State University, and received his Master of Divinity from Emory University in 1961. He met and married his wife, Lillie Edes, and they married June 12, 1954. His much loved wife, Lillie, passed away August 8, 2017. He began his career working as an accountant. He was called to the ministry in 1959. He became a Methodist pastor and pastored numerous churches throughout the Panhandle and West Texas areas over the next 27 years. He enjoyed singing many of the old hymns, but also loved the newer ones that gave glory to God. He had a sense of humor and liked to play practical jokes on the unwary. After Jene and Lillie retired to Amarillo, he did small remodeling jobs for the next few years. He then retired from that and enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, sitting outside in God's glory, taking care of the yard, and most importantly, spending time with his wife and family. He and his wife took their RV to many beautiful spots in the U.S., marveling at God's creation. He also went on several mission trips to Belarus, making friends, as he shared the Scriptures and his faith in Christ with others. His 2 sisters, brother-in-law and parents predeceased him. His wife of 63 years passed away August 8, 2017. Recently he had been living with his daughter and husband. He was placed on Hospice the first part of December and was able to spend his last days at home, surrounded by family. He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Burk and Donnie of Snyder, his 2 sons, Jene Greer, Jr and Lesa of Pampa, John Greer and Thelma of Breckenridge. Seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on December 28, 2017, 2 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home 4180 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, Texas.
