Jerry was born on April 26, 1942 in Hutchinson County to James and Edith Higgins. He married Margie Telford in 1976 in Amarillo. Jerry worked for Higgins Plastering for over 50 years as a lather until his retirement in 2010. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, camping and being outdoors with his family. He was especially proud of his Potawatomi Indian heritage. Jerry was a NASCAR enthusiast and was an Earnhardt fan through and through. He was known for his orneriness as well as his caring and generous spirit. Most of all, he loved his family and loved being "Papa" and "Grandpa" to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Higgins of Amarillo; son, David Higgins and wife Brandie of Yuma, AZ; 2 daughters, Kimberly Graves and fiancé, Wade Keys of Amarillo and Teresa Glenn and husband Steve of Superior, WS; 10 grandchildren, Sharale, Addison, Kali, Frances, Amanda, Matthew, Conor, Josh, Katie and Madi; his great grandchild, Emma; many close friends and his beloved dog, Deliah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Glenn, Eldridge and Edward and his sister, Dolores.
