Jim Brookes, 66, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Tuesday at Cross Pointe Church, 4400 Crockett St., with Pastor Scott Davey officiating. Jim was born January 6, 1952 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Roy and Millie Brookes. Jim was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of Carpenter Local #665 for 42 years. He retired from Texas Carpenter Regional Council in 2013. Jim was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M. He followed Nascar, and especially Matt Kenseth. In his spare time, he enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, and motorcycles. He also enjoyed playing the lotto and gambling. Jim was a beloved husband, father, brother, and Papa. He supported his kids and grandkids in all their sports. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Marsha Brookes; three sons, Shawn Brookes, Ben Brookes and wife Mindy, and Kyle Brookes and wife Meagan all of Amarillo; a brother, Rick Brookes and wife Cheryl of Carson City, NV; three sisters, Dale Giotes of Sarasota, FL; Hope Ellis of Nashville, TN; and Dawn Turner and husband Stephen of Avondale, PA; and five grandchildren, Brit Brookes, Avery Brookes, Grayson Brookes, Brylee Brookes, and B.J. Brookes. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at BSA Hospital and Texas Oncology for their care of Jim.
