Joann (Wilbanks) Hawkins

JoAnn (Wilbanks) Hawkins, 88, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Gruver Cemetery in Gruver, Texas. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. JoAnn was born November 6, 1930 in Spearman to E.N. and Ruby Wilbanks. She graduated from Spearman High School. She married Jeff Hawkins in Spearman on October 3, 1967. JoAnn worked as an office manager throughout her career. She worked for Dr. Hackley’s office, the Texas Employment Commission, and the County Judge’s office in Spearman. She worked for many years at Palo Duro River Authority, retiring in 2005. JoAnn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Coulter Road Baptist Church. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed cooking for her family. She played the organ and piano for her church. She enjoyed painting and playing bridge. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carl Ed Wilbanks; and three sisters, Loretta Boyd, Joyce Shockley, and Greta Curtis. Survivors include her husband, Jeff Hawkins; two sons, Jim Crawford and wife Sandy of Edmond, OK, and Joe Edd Crawford and wife Deby of Red Oak; two daughters, Vicki Crawford, and Jana McCarley and husband Michael all of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a “sister” niece, Melba Oakes; and many other nieces and nephews.
