Joe was born on December 14, 1932 in Amarillo to Gene and Ruby Hodges. He was raised in Amarillo, where he graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served during the Korean Conflict as a Seabee and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. Upon his discharge, he went to work for BNSF Railroad, where he worked for several years, but his dream was to start his own business. Joe married Faye Prough in 1962 in Gotebo, OK, and the couple soon went to work at fulfilling his vision-building a beautiful mobile home park. He took great pride in Country Estates Mobile Home Park, which he and Faye owned and operated for over 50 years. Joe was talented in working with his hands and knew the value of hard work. Joe was an involved father and supported his daughter's many activities. After his grandchildren were born, he was a doting "granddaddy" to them all.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Hodges of Amarillo; daughter, Hollye H. Hawkins and husband Brent of Amarillo; sister, Doris Walker of Amarillo of Amarillo; brother, Dean Hodges and wife Jean of Amarillo; sister, Gay Spinks and husband Bill of San Antonio and 4 grandchildren, Kage Hardy Hawkins, Kane Kent Hawkins, Katherine Olive Hawkins and Koen Anthony Hawkins.
