Joe was born on September 22, 1931, to James and Lora Swicegood in an oil camp near Ponca City, Oklahoma. He married Betty Marie Powell on February 1, 1951, in Bushland, Kansas.
Betty and Joe settled their family in the small mining town of San Manuel, Az. in the early 60’s. Originally Joe was the Carnation Dairy milkman, delivering milk and dairy products to homes and businesses in San Manuel, Oracle, and Mammoth. Later he and Betty owned the Farmers Insurance Agency in San Manuel, working there until their retirement in 1996.
After retirement Joe and Betty made their way to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida to study, work and worship at Christian International under the tutelage of their dear friend, Dr. Bill Hamon, and his wife, Evelyn. Together with Betty, he founded Transform Lives Ministry. Through that work Joe was able to bring hope and healing to a great number of people.
He was a kind and loving father, friend and mentor; never meeting a stranger, Joe could always make someone feel welcome and loved. He was a member of The Loft Church here in Amarillo.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Betty Powell, two brothers and two sisters, and a son, Joe Jr.
Survivors include three children; son, Steve Swicegood and wife Connie of Amarillo; his two daughters, Laura Kingston of Colorado Springs, Co. and Barbara Pierson also of Amarillo. Survivors also include eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
