Joe E. Tarver

Joe Edd Tarver was born on October 25, 1928 in Coleman. He attended school for four years at McGuire School, southwest of Tulia, Texas. He then spent one year at Lakeview School, west of Tulia and then three years at Canyon schools. Joe moved to Amarillo in 1942 and attended Amarillo High School and Amarillo College. He served in the United States Army, in the South Pacific as a Topographic Engineer with the 30th Engr's. Joe was called back to duty during the Korean War and served as a sergeant the XV Corp. headquarters. Joe worked 18 years as the manager of Barnes Builders Supply. He then started his own business, Contractors Wholesale, in 1970 and owned it for 43 years. Joe was a lifetime member of Architectural Hardware Association, and is a former member of the Association of General Contractors and Panhandle Home Builders Association. Joe was a member of First Baptist Church for sixty-five years. He served as a deacon and was also a Training Union Director for ten years and served 33 years as a Royal Ambassador Counselor. Joe married Ruth Evelyn Wiegel on August 22, 1952. She passed away in 2008. Joe was also preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Jane Salmon, brothers; Roy P. Tarver and Buddy Tarver, and his sister, Iva Lee Vaughan and his son-in law, Larry Landers. He is survived by his daughters, Jo Elyn Landers-Helton and husband Gary Helton, and Gay Lynn Tarver, granddaughters, Allison and husband Zeke Lewis, and a great-grandson Owen Lewis and Stephanie Hasekamp and husband Joe.
