John "Jd" Dellis

John “JD” Elwin Dellis, 71, of Bushland, passed away on Sunday May 5, 2024. Celebration of life services will be 10:00 AM Monday May 13, 2024 at the Amarillo Gun Club, 4521 S. Osage St. with Pastor Jeff Ponder officiating.  Services are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to The 100 Club of Texas Panhandle.

John was born on March 5, 1953 in Amarillo to John and Wanda Dellis. He is a graduate of Amarillo High School and later graduated from Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University in Canyon. John began working with the Amarillo Fire Department at the age of 20 years old. He served with the department for 31 years before his retirement. John continued to serve as chaplain for several years. He served his community with honor, passion and love; he will never be forgotten as one of the true heroes.

John had many hobbies, including but not limited to, competitive shotgun shooting, bass fishing and hunting. He was a long time board member of the Amarillo Gun Club. He also enjoyed riding his Firefighter edition Harley, playing softball and bowling in his spare time.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Reba Dellis and Wanda and Kenneth Meinert.

Survivors include his two sons, Johnny Dellis of Bushland and Jace Dellis and his wife, Skyler of Amarillo; his two daughters, Jamie Romero and husband Chris of Lubbock and Jadee Abbott and husband Kodye of North Haven, CT; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey Dellis and Randy Yager; a host of niece and nephews, including his niece, Noranda Duren and husband Ryan of Corpus Christi. Survivors include a host of extended family, close friends and his Amarillo Fire Department family.
