John W. Goehring passed away peacefully April 25, 2015. He was born August 11, 1932 in Butler, PA. Raised with a strong work ethic, he drove a pickup truck delivering groceries at his family's grocery store from the age of twelve. During high school and college breaks he worked at the Butler Armco Steel mill. He graduated from Butler High School in 1950. He turned down an opportunity to play professional baseball after high school and instead attended Penn State University where he obtained a degree in petroleum engineering. He spent many years in the oil and gas industry in Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas while employed with Phillips Petroleum. He relocated to Amarillo in 1980 to work for Pioneer Petroleum and later as a consultant at GSM, Inc. He married Joyce McDaniel in 1955. They were married 59 years until her death in May 2014.
He will be remembered as a kind, quiet man that enjoyed playing golf, snow skiing, tending to his garden and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo. The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Park Central that assisted him the last two years.
He is survived by his sons Steven of Bastrop, Texas and William and wife Tammye of Montgomery, Alabama; grandsons, Jacob and wife Michelle and Scott Goehring; granddaughter, Laura Spanjer and husband Stephen; great-granddaughter, Elsie Spanjer; sister, Consuelo Myers of Bethesda, Maryland as well as many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Joyce Goehring.
