John Wayne Groomer

John Wayne Groomer, 87, of Amarillo, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, September 29, 2017 at Trinity Fellowship Student Ministries Building, 5000 Hollywood Rd., with Pastor Larry Miles officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, September 28, 2017. John was born August 20, 1930 in Oklahoma, to Lloyd and Gladys Groomer. He was a veteran, having served in Panama with the US Air Force. He married the mother of his children, Loyce Hedgecoke, in Amarillo on September 25, 1954, and enjoyed many years together before she predeceased him. On May 14, 1996, he married his new love, Betty Williams in Clovis, NM. He had a love for planes, being a pilot and traveling. At one time, he was a dance instructor, teaching many the art of ballroom dancing. He enjoyed working with his hands and his family was everything to him. He is preceded in death not only by the mother of his children, Loyce, but also, his twin brother, James Wade Groomer and 2 sisters, Margie Lamb and Betty Zimmerman. He is survived by his wife Betty Groomer; his children, Jonne Groomer and wife Janet, Kathlene Brooks and husband Dan, Scott Groomer and wife Anita, Stephen Groomer and wife Jamie, Kelly Williamson and wife Diane, Donna Sutton and husband Bobby, and Karen Allison; 20 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; his siblings, Dink Groomer, Mary Irene Frederick and husband Jerald, Melvin Groomer and Colene Barrett and husband Jerry; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
