John Hays, 85, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday May 18, 2022. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday May 21, 2022 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Ivins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

John was born on June 29, 1936 in Amarillo, Texas to Lillie Hays. He married Doris Johnson on August 30, 1958 in Amarillo. John and Doris enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. He worked for Southwestern Portland Cement as a purchasing agent for 29 years before retiring from Pantex after 10 years of service.

John liked to work in the yard and loved to grow things. He also enjoyed golfing in his spare time. John loved his family and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. John was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was loved by so many, and will be missed.

John was preceded in death by his mother and his wife, Doris Hays; brothers-in-law, Gary Parent and Jimmy Johnson.

Survivors include one son, David Hays and wife Thelma of Amarillo; two daughters, Michele Hays of Corpus Christi, TX and Kimberly Hunt and husband John of Amarillo; one sister, Paula Specht, also of Amarillo; sisters-in-law, Kay Johnson and Rita Parent; four grandchildren, John Hays and wife Darla, Zachary Hays and wife Laci, Thomas Hays and wife Carissa, and Michelle Floyd and husband Seay; ten great-grandchildren.
