John Kemp, 70, of Amarillo passed away on Thursday March 17, 2022. The family will receive friends on Thursday March 24, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
John was born on June 20, 1951 in Fort Worth to Foster and Anna Marie Kemp. He served in the United States Army from 1970 – 1978. John was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was on a Pershing Missiles crew out of Germany. He married Cindy Cummins on August 22, 1969 and they spent 49 wonderful years together before she preceded him in death in 2019. John worked for Pantex for 27 years before he retired in 2006. He loved to square dance with his wife and the two were members of, the Whirly Birds and the Texas Twisters. John loved to go bowling, take a nice cruise with is family and enjoyed fishing; He was a part of several bowling leagues. His favorite cruise was the Alaskan Cruise. John owned and operated Kemp Lawnmower Repair Service and even taught his grandchildren how to work and repair lawnmowers. He was very passionate about his hobbies and loved to tinker with things. John was a natural born handy man, and enjoyed getting things to work again.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Albert Kemp; two sisters, Francis Schumacher and Barbara McKennan. Also, his beloved wife, Cindy Kemp.
Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Tobar (Tim McCarthy) of Amarillo; one son, Danny Kemp (Judith) of Leander; six grandchildren, Marcos Tobar, Andru Kemp, Ramon Tobar, Jaquelyn Kemp, Benjamin Kemp and Vivian Kemp; two great grandpups, Joe and Chico.
