Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, April 11, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Pastor Billy Nickell officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. John was born January 9, 1933 in Bronx, New York. John grew up in New York and joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17, and proudly served his country for four years from 1950-1954. He married his wife, Frances on May 18, 1970, and became a dad to David and Karen. John sold insurance for many years, retiring from the insurance industry in 1983. John went on to become a corrections officer for TDCJ and retired after 10 years of service.
In his spare time, John enjoyed taking the family camping at Padre Island, where they slept in tents on the sand. For these trips, John built a trailer himself to carry camping equipment. He enjoyed building things and tinkering in his garage workshop, building himself an 8’ workbench for his garage. John was a faithful member of First Assembly of God Church, later First Family Church, where he taught Sunday school for several years. John was a true Yankee with a Bronx NY accent and he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Harriet Whitney; and his wife, Frances Whitney.
Survivors include a son, David Fetherlin and wife Sheila of Las Cruces, NM; a daughter, Karen Allen and husband Michael of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Fetherlin, Greg Fetherlin and wife Kimberley, Rebekah Fetherlin, and Paul Allen and wife Autumn; and eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Reagan, Brianna, Carsyn, Liam, Scott, Logan, and Isaac.
