Johnny Jay Johnson

Johnny Jay Johnson, 68, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on April 20th, 2026. He was born on July 14, 1957, in Amarillo, Texas to the late Warren and Ora Lee Johnson.

On May 25, 1983, Johnny married the love of his life, Ramona Gunn, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family. Their marriage was a true partnership that lasted over 43 years.

Johnny enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved fishing, camping, and spending quiet evenings sitting outside listening to music. A skilled and reliable mechanic, he drove a truck for many years and was known as everyone’s “go-to” guy for fixing anything with an engine. If something was broken, Johnny could usually make it run again, and he was always willing to help friends, family, and neighbors with their vehicles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Ora Lee Johnson, and his three brothers: J.B. Staats, Sunny Staats, and Phillip Johnson.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Ramona Johnson; his two sisters, Charlene Staats Bills and Deanie Staats Frith his two sons, Randall Sanders and Samuel Sanders; his two daughters, Melissa Torres (Tony) and Christal Johnson (Frank) 12 grandchildren; T.J. (Lindsay), Audrie (Lake), Alexius (Jakob), Tyler (Maddy), Trevon (Re'anna) Vanessa, Alicia (Carlos), Juan, Gabriel, Holden, Moses, Logan; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Johnny will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a man who loved the outdoors and helping others. His mechanical know-how, and easygoing nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
