Joseph Guzman

May 29, 1964 — August 8, 2017

Joseph was born on May 29, 1964 in Amarillo to Joe Castillo and Lupe Guzman. He was raised in Amarillo, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1982. Throughout his childhood, he wrestled and played football for school teams. Joseph began his employment with SPS in 1985, which later became Xcel Energy. He was a loyal and dedicated employee for over 31 years for the company. He was a die-hard OU fan, traveling with friends and family frequently to attend games. Joseph was a member of Hillside Christian Church Amarillo South Campus for over 12 years. His love for Christ led him to serve in leadership as well as many other ministries throughout the church. He volunteered for the Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo for many years. Joseph will be remembered for his infectious smile, as being the brightest star in the room, the person who would do anything for others, even strangers. He demonstrated the heart of Christ to everyone he came in contact with and was known as an encourager to many. Many felt that Joseph had the ability to make them feel like they were the only ones in the room. As a father, he taught his children the same morals and spent as much time as possible being with them. He was so proud to recently participate in the wedding of his daughter, Ashton. Joseph will be remembered for the generous, loving and compassionate man known by many. He is survived by his son, Braxton Guzman of Amarillo; daughter, Ashton Willingham and husband Darrell Young of Amarillo; mother, Lupe Hampton of Mocksville, NC; 2 brothers, Gregory Guzman of Des Moines, IA and Barret Carter and wife Julianne of Amarillo; mother of his children, RaDonna Guzman of Amarillo; brothers-in-law, Gene Pittman and Dean Pittman; niece, Bailey Guzman; nephew, Isaiah Guzman and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephwes, and cousins who loved him dearly. Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joe Castillo; brother, Brad Langford and his step-father, Avery Wayne Hampton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Benefit Fund for the Children of Joseph Guzman at Amarillo National Bank, the GoFundMe account, or the Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo.
